In the 1960s and 1970s, artist Yeh Chi Wei struggled to gain recognition for his avant-garde expressions, leading to a reclusive life in southern Malaysia in his later years. The National Gallery presents a grand exhibition showcasing his posthumous works, highlighting the achievements of this pioneering artist. Born in 1913 and passing away in 1981, Yeh Chi Wei was most active during the same period as other pioneering artists. Despite his immense talent, factors like his modest demeanor and only one solo exhibition during his lifetime led to his obscurity. The exhibition showcases his artistic contributions through his legacy works, exploring his position in Singaporean art history. The posthumous exhibition includes 30 pieces from the National Gallery's collection, totaling 50 diverse artworks, showcasing his rich artistic style.
